We rely on volunteers
The minibus is run solely by volunteers who act as the Trustees of the Charity, the Office Admin Team, the Treasurer and most importantly the Drivers and Escorts for the buses. In many cases individuals are involved in more than one of the specific roles.
Drivers -
Drivers must hold a current valid licence with either D1 or if the licence was obtained after Jan 1997 a B Licence, be 25 -75 years old, and ideally be available to drive on at least one occasion a month or more if available. If you are over 70 you will need to reapply to the DVLA to keep your D1 Licence Category, the Office Team will guide you through this and organise a medical for you. MiDAS training will be given, free of charge, unless you already hold a valid MIDAS certificate or a D licence or equivalent.
Escorts -
Age is no barrier, however a degree of physical fitness is required as you are assisting passengers getting on or off the bus. You will be given MIDAS Theory training so that you are able to understand the driver’s role and responsibilities and how you can assist them. Not every journey we undertake needs an escort but we will ensure you are contacted if you wish to be included in the monthly roster.
Office Team -
Volunteers form the Office Team. They deal with all the administration and bookings. The office is open 5 days a week (Mon-Fri) from 9:30 -12 noon.
Trustees -
Bedale Community Minibus as a Charity has a Management Committee, presently with 6 members all of whom are Trustees. The Trustees are drawn from all walks of life and have sole responsibility for BCM as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Of the 6 Trustees, 3 are also drivers, 2 are escorts and one is the MIDAS Trainer. Each Trustee takes a turn in manning the Office on a Wednesday.
